The conceusuB of opinion among
Lumbermen seems to bo that there
'Is nothing the mntter with the lum
ber market but Its time honored
bugaboo, overproduction. Spring
building activity Is Rood, on the
whole, and In many sections farm
buying will be excellent this year. '
iBut the Immense production of
the country, and particularly of the
West Coast association and Califor
nia White and Sugar Pine associa
tion keeps the market distinctly a
"buyer's market.
Early last week a meeting was
held in the Pelican City Community
for the purpose of forming a Tim
ber league of baseball teams from
the mills and camps of 'Klamath
county. Plana for the financiug of
the league -were discussed, and
another meeting was called for
April 22, at the Community club
at 7:30 P. M.
The opinion was expressed by sev
eral that otiiai'must be .exercised not
to Hllow the Timber league to inter
fere with the Siskiyou Klumulh
league, but to use It rather as a
feeder for players to the town league-
Representatives were present nt
this meeting from Lamm Lumber
company, Pelican Bay Lumber com
pany, Tennant, California, and the
Lumberlogue.
Lumberlogue agreed cither to fur
nish a silver loving cup as a trophy
for the winner, or to enter a team
In the field It necessary to create
a sizable league.
; letters have been sent to the
principal 1 luniber companies in
Klamath county and Northern Cali
fornia, inviting them to send repre
sentatives to the meeting April 23.

FOREST FIRE-
ORDERS GIVEN
"The following or placing of a

heel, firecracker, or nuy Igultcd
substance, or the discharge of tiny
kind of fireworks, in any place
where It may start u tire,'' is pro
hibited In the National Forests un
der a new regulartlon jnsi Issued
by Secretary of Agriculture W. M.
J vrillne, under Authority vested In
him by congress. Word of this new
regulation lias just been received by
District Forester C. M. Granger.
Violation of the new regulation
Is a misdemeanor, punishable un
der Federal law by a flue of not
more than $500. or 12 months Im
prisonment, or both.
Local forest officials suggest that
the new regulation would mike
a good text for a forest protection
talk during Americas Forest Week,
which Is to be observed April 27 to
-May 3. '
The Forest Service plans to en
force the regulation strictly. They
hopo, by so doing materially to re
duce the number of man-caused
forest fires, particularly during tho
Fourth" of July. Many peoplo still
seem to have mistaken Idea that
patriotism consists largely of dis
charging fireworks in dry forested
areas, it is said.

Prevention of Fires
"In spite of our best efforts, wn
will ulways havo forest fires, so we-
must havo ways of meeting them,"
says W. 13. Osborne, of the federal

"Tlio three main lines of preven
tion arc educational publicity, direct
campaign nKalnHt the Individual,
and a clearer understanding of the
loiseH sustained," said Mr. Osborne.
"Though 05 per cent of our cit
izens tire In a frunia of mind where
they will prevent the minority from
firing forests, publicity Is needed."
Mr. Osborne explained In detail
the methods nnd problems of fire
suppression, emphasising "robbing
