morning In the Columbia river, off
the 'Port Adams life saving station.
Both vessels were damaged.
One fireman on the Japanese ven
ae! was Injured. The Charles R. Mo
McCormick, which proceeded on up
stream to the Astoria anchorage,
was reported as taking , water In a
forward hold.
The Yoshlda Maru No. 1 a'Jiorbed
the shock In the destruction of its
foropeak tank-and was. not taking
water in any of Its freight holds. ;

j Following the brawl, Harry lived

During the trial, the streets' of
Yreka recalled the oH days with
the groups of Indians wandering
here and there. Fearful that liquor
might be secured by some of the
tribesmen county and city officials
have been vigilant and Just before
the close of the session yesterday
afternoon. Constable M. C. Carrick
arrested three tor disorderly con
duct and bad them held. It is said
that they had rounded canned heat
and were making merry with It.

' MARSKFIELD, Ore., April 17.
Five members of ono family were
burned to death In a fire which de
stroyed a frame building hers this
morning. The dead: II. II. Hopps,
72; Mrs. It. H. Hopps, 6B; Vernon
Hopps, 17; Ituth Hiopps, 13, Her
man Hopps, 10. The bodies were
burned boyond recognition. The
victims wore apparently suffocated
in tho fire.
