have no high regard for the Ku Klux klan. We had long :
considered them a naughty 'organisation, who would
profit, did Uncle Sam turn them across his knee and ad
minister a round old-fashioned larruping.
But we were not prepared for the shocking revela
tion of the peeved Major Powell, or Portland, who tells
the world that the murk of the klavems is made murkier
by rough and sooty tales, unsuited for feminine ears.
. Bad, bad little boys. They ought to have their bad
little mouths soaped out.
.And all the time we supposed they' were grouped
in a mystic circle-, discussing 109 per cent Americanism,
and exchanging high and elevating thoughts. ,

men, ready to dare all perils for the glory of the Prote-'

nasty perverted little minds, and a super-fondness for;
the dramatic. ,
When grafters fall out, sensible men begin to get;
an insight into the. system of strings by which the pup

I THEOLOGIANS FIDDLE WORLD BURNS :
. (From Medford Mail Tribune) , ;
THE PRESENT situation in America churches is cert- j

There are some mental types, for example, that de
mand a literal interpretation
an interpretation, their spiritual foundations disappear; i
there are other mental types that demand a figurative, :
symbolical interpretation or
what appears to them, irrational mysticism.
To say that one type is entirely right and the other
entirely wrong, is not only untrue but a waste of time.
For after all the various divisions of the Christian faith
are riot an end but a means tb an end. Whatever theoiy
is most helpful lo the individual, whatever form makes
that individual a better citizen, and helps him to lead
a better life, that form for him is true and right. Let
him have it. The important thing.is not the route, but
the destination, not theories, but results.
At the present moment, however, this self-evident
fact is completely lost in the struggle of this theoiy, over
some other theoiy, of this interpretation over some other
interpretation. What we need spiritually, is to drop this
contentious nonsense entirely, and get together on the
important business of making this world a better place
