Joseph Chenls, 33, widely-known Bhastln'a Jeweler and prominent In lodge cir cles confessed to Sheriff A. S. Calk Ins and District Attorney C. H. John son that ho bad shot and killed Ja:i. Brady, pugilist, of Omaha, Neb., whoso mysterious death la.t week bad been made center of a thorough Investigation by Siskiyou officers. Chenls said he was returning to bis store from the postofflce atcr dark and was accosteil on the street by Brady, who anked blm for money. When he refused, Brady attempted to "strong-arm" blm. He drew his gun and struck Brady over the head. In the scuffle which ensued the gun was discharged and Brady fell. Chenls said he did not realize at first that his own gun had dis charged and thought the shot must have conic from some other direc tion.
