hesitation, the boy plunged into the
canal and grasped the Dawjon boy.
Struggling frantically, the two

both boys to shore.

pheasants were liberated Saturday
In the Orlndale, Skillet Handle and
Bonanza districts. Marlon Barnes,
game warden, and Nate Otterbeln
distributed the birds, placing 100
at Orlndale, 100 along the Skillet
Handle and SO near Bonanti
The young pheasants were re
celved from the state game farm at
Corvallis. They arrived In excel
lent condition, not one being lost
on the trip.
While pheasants are multiplying
well In Klamath county the season
will not be opened thla year, as
some hunters have asked, espec
ial vigilance Is to be used this year
against poachers, and any one mo
lesting the protected birds la likely
to be detected and punished,

THE DALLAS. July 30. Two
blocks burned at Arlington, Ore.,
between 3:00 and 5:00 o'clock
this morning, according to reports
received here. The Hood River fire
department responded to a call for
help. The Dalles department was
preparing to send oid when It re
ceived word at 5:00 o'clock that
the tire was controlled. The Grand
hotel, a pool hall and several resi
dences were among the buildings
burned.
ARLINGTON, July 30. The fire
which early today swept the busi
ness district, starting from an un
known cause at the Arlington hotel,
formerly the Grand, swept one block
of buildings on Main street. Jump
ed a throughfare and destroyed an
other block of shops and stores. It
Is estimated the loss of 175,000 to
S'SO.OOO.
ST. HELENS. July 30. Loss
about $125,000 was caused by a fire
which early today destroyed the St.
Helens Tie and Timber company
mill on Sauvlea Island, and wiped
out one of tho ways and one shed of
.he St. Helena Ship Building com
pany. The mill, which had been
running double shift, shut dawn Fri
day night. About 11:00 o'clock
last night the watchman discovered
the fire In the center of the mill.
