Commenting on tho now rcfrlRcr
ntor car construction, officials of
the Southern Pacific company, which
owns a half Interest In the Pacific
Fruit express, point out that the
largo Incrcaso In the latter com
pany's equipment should counteract
a repetition cf the conditions which
cauieJ a car shortaR this year. The
main reasons for tho refrigerator
car shortage this year was the dif
ficulty In Retting cars back from
the east to Southern Pacific rails,
the coal and railroad strikes having
slowed up the normal movement of
empties to tho west. The peak do
mand for refrigerator cars usually
varies In different sections of tho
country but this year every section
had a peak load at the samoitlme,
which made tho situation still more
difficult to handle.
