WORTH TRYING
10 KINK out of ten rcpubllcin
votors In Klamath county we
cnturc to say that tho namo of
Ralph Williams mean nothing at
all. Yet for fourteen years Wil
liams has been tho Oregon member
of tho national republican commit
tee, tho voice and Tote of Oregon
lans In national political affairs.
Fourteen years of non-accom-pllrhment
have worn the patience
of Oregon business men, and this
year Williams Is opposed for re
election by O. II. FIthlan, Portland
niefclmiit. Vhoo platform has a
ring of promise.
A national committeeman can be
far more than a figurehead, and
FIthlan promises. It elected, that
ho will do certain definite things
for tho development of Oregon.
Klamath county Is especially In
terested In his promise to secure
war finance corporation aid for
farmers and stockmen.
Tho opposing platforms are con
trasted In a recent article by Henry
M. Hanr.cn. political editor of the
Portland Telegram, and a comparl
kon of his analysis with the official
platforms submitted by the' candi
dates to tho secretary of state,
shows 'that Hansen has stuck to the
rocord In measuring the merits of
the men. This Is his summing-up:
FIthlan Is a progressive republican
and Is seeking the office on a con
structive platform promising party
loyalty, and faithful public service
to the state.
Williams Is a reactionary, and Is
seeking re-election 0n a political
platform promising merely party
service.
FIthlan promises ta "loyally rap
port the principle of the Reputli
can party," and also to consdentl
Tii.ttni.-sirieJkJraVaJir maaklaJ
interests. r v -(
Williams promise "tV chaatpioa
those principle for. "which the J-
pdbllcan party stands," and there
his platform stop.
FIthlan 's conception of the duties
of national committeeman la two
fold loyalty -to his party, but ever
and abore all service to the people.
Williams' conception of the du
ties of a national committeeman is
purely political fealty to party,
and its organization.
FIthlan promises "to work In
harmonious co-operation with Ore
gon's delegation in congress."
Williams bas never worked In
harmony with the delegation, and
makes no promise In his platform
that be will endeavor to do so 'In
the future
FIthlan promises t0 do hi ut
most, to' assist, the Oregon deter
tlon to obtain, legislation for the re
lief of Oregon's farmers and lire-
stock men.
.Williams has never lifted a finger
to-aid either of them, and promises
nothing for them in his platform.
FIthlan promises to aid the Ore
con delegation to secure for Ore
Kou farmers their just share of loans
from the war finance corporation.
Vllllams has never offered to
aid them, and In his platform
makes no pledges along that line
fur. tho future.
FIthlan favors a nutlon-wlde
presidential primary.
Wllllunw Is silent on that 'all Im
portant political tBsue in bis plat
form, i
Flthluu declares himself "heart
ily In favor" of "prompt" and "Just
recognition of ull war veteran.
Williams is aUo silent on this
great Issue of human rights now
ondlug before congress.
.Fjthlan favor "equal rights for
women within the republican
party."
Williams' platform is also silent
un this big political question.
WUson vs. Klamath Mint
Roy N. Fouch, on behalf of John
D. Wilson, tiled suit" In tho circuit
court this morning on n promissory
note for $69. 00 with Interest at 6
per cent from December 16, 1921,
against tho Klamath Mint company,
as principal, and J. W, Siemens, F. A.
Raker, and John X. Davis as ondors
'era on the note.. Tho action also asks
for $300 attorneys fees and costs.
