The starter requires from SO to 400 amperes, depending upon the site and kind of starter to re volve the engine, whereas the gen erator sends only 5 to 25 amperes through the wire which connects It to the battery. Form of Raring Car Racing cars are usually con structed pointed or bullet-shaped at the rear to rut down the vac uum which Is created behlrd the car when going at a high rate of speed. This vacuum offers a hind cranco t0 a car at the rear, there- tore the pointed body, which al- loag the air currents to flow away smoothly. Air hindrance must al ii so be considered at the front ot a 9 racing car, the reason for tho nov- 5 el shaped radiator ot shells and E0 other body designs. 2 tatlon problem tho Haitians havo outstepped many cities mora advan tageously situated. Interesting pho tographs ot thp novel street cars! wero brought back by Kdward Hen-! kcl, who visited Haiti receutty on board tho V. S. S. Henderson. For thn period of tho lait ilx orj eight republic!, ai tbey nguro iimo In Haiti, railroads and street cars there havo been operated by the Haitian American Sugar company. For many years largo sums of monoy have been squandered an nually In the upkeep ot ancient steam locomotives, which consumed fabulous quantities ot coal tn tholr short trips. An economical solution was final ly reached by the railroad superin tendent with the help of Anton Kneor. Dodge Brothers dealer In I'ort nu Prince. With a Dodge tlrothcrs chassis as a beginning, a complete street railway coach was built. The gearing from tho orig inal rear axlo to the 2-Inch loco motive wheels which drive the car was greatly reduced so that the sprockets on driving axle and drlv Ing wheels were equal In site, in this way the power which could be applied was greatly Increased. With a total weight of 7.J50 ponnds, the chassis could now be sped up to forty miles an hour without over-heating the motor. On this chassis a complete street car was constructed, and the completed Job Is now making regular trips on tbo streets of Port au Prince. Sa successful has the venture proven that the Haitian American' Sugar company contemplates adding three or four more atreet cars on Dodge Ilrothera chassis, and similar Job-i to haul sugar out of their plantations.
