FORGET WHETHER
IT IS DAY OR
NIGHT IN CANADA
OTTAWA, Ont Nov. 21. Resi
dents of the Fort Norman Oil fields,
newly discovered, In the remoto
northwest of Canada, along tho Mc-
Kunzlo river, forgot whether it Is
day or night. This Is the result of
thp long porlods of daylight. It was
brought out In an Incident related
by O. S. Flnnle, of tho Canadian
Department of tho Interior, who has
rocontly returned from Fort Norman.
On ono occasion on bis trip, a nativo
accosted Mr. Flnnle, asking the time
of day.
"It's 11 o'clock," was tho reply.
"Day or night?" inquired the na
tive, with a languid glance at the
sun which had been shining contin
ually for days.
Mr. Flnnle explained that the long
sunlight periods apparently take away
from the natives all sense of time and
they eat when they are hungry and
sleep when they want to without ref
erence to what elsewhere are night
hours.
Vegetables grow exceptionally well
In the far north says Mr. .Flnnle who
attributes thla to the long daya. Po
tatoes, turnips, celery and ordinary
vegetables yield excellent crops..
