STATE C. OF C,
PORTLAND, Ore., Sopt. 27. Con

tho farmers are hard hit through
crop failures, lack of markets and
general' hard times, has resulted In
tho decision of tho Oregon State
Chamber of Commerce to canco'l tho

ing to announcement today.
J. R. Heurlng, representative of
the State Chamber, who has been ad
vertising Oregon's opportunities In
tho mlddlo western states during tho
past flvo months,' roports conditions
there to bo unbelievably bad, due to
the general business depression
which bu followed the good times of
tho past two years. Tho great corn
producing states aro tho hardest hit,
according to Heurlng. Corn which
sold for two dollars a bushel two
years ago is now being contracted for
at thirty cents.
Large numbers of farmers promis
ed to come to Oregon on tho Septem
ber excursion, according to Heurlng,
but when tho actual date of depar
ture draw near only seven were ablo
to complete their reservations.
"Although wo were not ablo to
securo a largo party to come to 'Ore-,
gon this fall, I believe that tho past
summor's work in the mlddlo west
will bo of enormous benefit to Ore
gon," declared Socrotary Quayle.

Today a notablo monument stands

'Tho first ploneors tracked across

there should be intenslvo cultiva
