Answer THE PEOPLE voted for 'the Hot Spring.
Court House. The Klamath Development Co.
offered a site, of five acres now worth $50,000.
We get title to it if the County builds and occu
pies the Hot, Springs Court House. BUT NOT
OTHERWISE.
If we don't build there, we violate our contract,
and we lose $145,915.12 cash and $50,000 real
estate.
WILL Klamath Development Co. let the County keep
the Hot Springs site if they abandon die building?
Answer NOT ON YOUR LIFE!
Did the Evening Herald have any authority whatever
for the statement that the Klamath Development
Co. would give that site to the County?
'Answer NO. The Evening Herald has no, authority
to give away anything belonging to Klamath
County, and certainly nothing belonging to the
Klamath Development Co.
IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE THAT Ask Klamath De
velopment Co.
The Evening Herald says it will take $175,000 to finish
Hot Springs Court House. Is that true?
Answer NO; it is not true. There is money enough in
the Court House fund right now to finish Hot
Springs Court House without calling on the tax
payers for another dollar for court house pur
poses. CAN you take that money, levied and collected for
Hot Springs Court House, and divert it and use it
for roads or schools, or any other specific pur
pose, as urged and promised in the Evening
Herald?
Answer NO; YOU CAN NOT, unless the Judge and
Commissioners of the County Court who follow
that advice go to jail or pay a fine.
Here is the law: Sec. 3675 Lord's Oregon Laws:
"When any moneys shall have been collected
"or received by any officer for any distinct and
"specified object, no portion of them shall be paid
"or applied to any other' object or purpose, . . .
"but shall be kept a separate fund for such speci
fied object; and any officer failing to comply,
"with the provisions of this section shall be liable
"to a fine not exceeding $500, or to imprisonment
"in the county jail not exceeding six months."
What would be the loss by so doing?
Answer Over $330,000.
The Evening Herald says: If Chastain and Peterson
are elected they will make the County occupythe
Main street Court House.
What will be the effect of occupying Main street Court
House and "throwing away" Hot Springs Court
House?
Answer DOUGAN will get his ONLY CHANCE to
get back his money on an illegal contract. If the
County Court would accept the Main street Court
House it would have to pay Dougan.
DID NOT the people of Klamath County vote $347,
000 road bonds, to which the State of Oregon
added an equal amount and the United States
doubled; making over $1,000,000, and has not a
part of that money been expended this year on
highways until the State and the United States
were stopped by injunction and threaten to with
draw all further financial aid to Klamath County?
Answer YES. The people of Klamath county are
already now co-operating with the State and
United States to build highways to the fullest ex
tent permitted by law.
WHAT ABOUT that Hot Air scheme of the Evening
Herald to unlawfully divert money now in the
Court House fund, which can be used ONLY to
finish Hot Springs Court House see Judge Ham
ilton's decision and make the State of Oregon
and the United States parties' to a scheme, illegal
a it is impossible and visionary, to create a mil
lion dollar fund to be used for road purposes?

Was this scheme to enjoin the State and stop, spending
money on Klamath County highways practically
approved by the Evening Herald? '
Answer YES. See Evening Herald of Oct. '18, 1920.
Why?,
Answer Anything to beat Robt. H. Bunnell and Bur
rell Short; to force the County to take the Main
Street Court House, and to pay Dougan and his
friends a large amount of money that the courts
say they are not entitled to. .
What is the logical conclusion from the editorials pub
lished by the Evening Herald?
Answer That the editor of the Herald considers the
people of Klamath County easy to "camouflage,"
and that Chastain and Peterson are to be his pup
pet, and carry out all the wild visionary and un
lawful schemes he has sprung in this campaign.
. Will the people be fooled?
Answer-NO. YOU CANT DO IT, Mr. Editor'.
