notes of the confederate states of

again. Reports of tho victimization
of shop-keepers at ports have been
reaching the American embassy here
In Increasing numbers recently.
A picket seller at one of the big
'London rallwaystatlons gave a Swiss
waiter 11 English poinds for a ISO
confederate note but became auspi
cious before the waiter had gone far
and had him detained. The police
wero In a dilemma aa they could not

ican money and finally had to appeal
to the American ombassy.
Tho Swiss satd ho obtained the
noto from an American but declined
to say how much the transaction
cost him. Tho police believed bis
story that he had acted In good fnlth
with the ticket seller.
The police say this swindle runs In

but that at present It Is bolng per
