Newell enter tained delightfully for a number ot friends, with cards and sewing, the 'early part of the week, compliment ing Mrs. P. Leader. The first meeting of St. Paul 4 Episcopal Guild, held at Mrs. II. D. Mortensen'a home at Pelican City, Thursday, was decided success and a great deal of enthusiasm for the coming year's work was shown. Af ter the business of the day had been taken care of, a delightful aoclai hour followed, and the hostess serv ed a dainty luncheon to her guests. It was decided that the guild would give a series of card parties and in the near future a dance: then, before Christmas there will be a ba zaar. The next mooting will h bold at Mrs. E. W. Gowen's home on Pine street, October 14. Friends of Miss Mabel Mears will no doubt be glad to hear that the Unlvorslty of Southern California baa asked Mlsa Meara to take charge of the department ot domestic science and art at that institution.
