The Cerukvteed guaranteo provides ilMsls for ettknau
ing the approximate cost per year of your new roof.
2erta!n-teed Roofing, Number 3 Heavy, is guaranteed
for fifteen years. It usually lasts longer.
Taking fifteen years as the assured life and dividing the
unusually low cost of Certain-teed, as compared to most
modern types of roofing, by this figure, you readily ses
how economical Certain-teed is.
The light and medium weights of Certain-feed are also
guaranteed, five years for the former and ten years for
the latter.
In addition to its durability, Certain-teed is weather-proat;'
fire-retarding and spark-proof.
And it costs less to buy, less to lay and less to maintain
than any other type of good roofing.
See a Certain-teed dealer about roofing. If he hasnt
enough of the weight you want in stock he can quickly
get more from a nearby Certain-teed warebooM or
distributing center. .

II. S. SHIPPING
LONDON. Aug. 13, (Hy Mall).
According to Lloyd's register ot ship
ping just issued, tho gross tonnage
bt tho United States shipping has In
creased slnco 1914 by more than 500
por cent. American tonnage now
stands nt 16,040,000 tons, which
places tho United States second only
to tho United Kingdom uhlch Is
credited with 18,330,000 tons.
Jnpan, which in 1914 took sixth
placo. Is now third, 'with 2,996,000
tons, closely followed hy France,
with 2,963,000 tons.
Including sailing ships, hut ex
cluding tonnago on tho Great Lukes,
tho United States now owns 24 per
cent ot tho worm's tonnage, us
against 4.7 per cent six years ago, tho
register states. "
Tito figures suown lor mo lonuur
ly belligerent countries Includo u
considerable amount of enomy ton
nago provisionally allocated to those
"countries. Germany, which in 191V
occupied, after tho United Kingdom,
tho first position with over 5,000,000
tons ot shipping, now only owns
419,000 tons.
Tho stoam tonnage owned by the
principal maritime countries In June,
1920, totalled 3,905,000, an increase
of 8,501,000 tons aa compared with
June 1914; but it la computed that
the world's net loan In shipping
through tho war, taking Into account
the suspension In normal shipbuild
ing activities, amounts to 3,516,000
tons.
There Is a reduction In sailing ton
nago slnco pro-war days of 614,000
tons, a much smaller decroase than
in any previous six year period and
doubtless accounted for, says the
register, ly tho shortage- ot other
tonnago hilui; given new life to the
construction of sailing vessols. The
United BUtei. the only country
which Ii.im Incroasod sailing tonnage
slnco 1014, now owns ovor 43 per
cent of tho world's salllag tonnage.
Probably few peoplo realize that
.there aro less than a million days In
tho whole Christian era. In fact, If
wo count back a million days froaj
1920, we come to a date well before
tho founding of Rome.
