man was overcome by gas fumes.
Whelpton, Naylor and Ball, recipi

steeplejacks, ascended a ladder,
climbed over the projecting chimney
crown and applied artificial respira
tion to the' unconscious man for 20
minutes. Then they lowered him to
the ground in a canvas ambulance
sling, which bad been passed up by
means of a rope.
