HUNGARY QUI !
NAT HINT Mi
jfQEfflSafflr
, VigS -.. ---
BUDAPEST, Apr. S. The allies
have made not one but three Alsace
Lorraines 6f Hungary, declares Arch
duke Joseph of Hapsburg, the man
who wanted to be king of Hungary
but whose aspirations were thwarted
by the supreme council at Paris.
"We have not deserved Buch treat
ment," he said to the Associated
Press correspondent whom he re
ceived In his palace here. "We did
not want the war," he continued;
"we protested against taking part
in it.
"The Germans felt the war was
bound to come, and Inasmuch as they
were ready while tho other nations
were not, they felt it was best it camo
when an opportunity was presented
by the murder of the Austrian crown
prince, particularly as It was believed
Russia was thus inviting war,"
The archduke professes to be un
able to understand why the allies
object to him. "Of courso I am a
Hapsburg," ho said, "but why should
there be so much enmity against the
Hapsburgs on thopart of the allies?
Is It left-over propaganda?"
His adherents argue that tho peo
ple of Hungary want a king and that
archduke Joseph is the best liked
man in the country.
The correspondent found him
working at his memoirs on his desk
In the library off his palaco which is
resplendent In marble, tapestries and
rare bronzes. He Is a short man of
medium weight, slow in movement,
deliberate of speech, with a typical
pose and pale blue eyes of tho Haps
burgs. He still woro a military uni
form and about his neck hung the
grand cross of the Leopold order.
Commenting on the Hungarian peace
treaty, he said;
"The future of Hungary now, with
our restricted frontiers, appears'
mainly agricultural, although I am
sure sooner, or later our lost pro
vinces will be returned to us, For
tunately for me, I am a farmer."
Tho archduke formerly possessed
three estates. One of these of
50,000 acres Is in Transylvania which
is occupied by the Rumanians. An
other largo farm Is in the formerly
Hungarian territory given to tho
Czechs. "I wonder If I shall ever get
these farms back," he said. "I
bought them with "my own money
I many years ago. Money which I
learned myself. They wore not crown
properties passed to mo by Inherit
ance. The archduke still retains a
farm of 10,000 acres at Alcsuth
which be now manages, often work
Ing in the fields.

LONDON, March 23. (By Mall.)
Oor'man music Is returning to Eng

when his "Don Juan" was placed

recently with tho idea that those
who did not want to hear it need not
remain. Some members of tho audi

there was no other manifestation of
