CHEW IT AFTER EUERY m JtltllliTiPLA Sealed Tight Kept Right meal M 1 A10 JLJ To nil interested In the development of the Klamath Area: 1 think joh will see, hoforo finish ing this urilclo, that I am primarily Inti'tostml In myself While I was educated along othor than strictly j X Hfcrii tiiiuitii iiuc:, jei i was iioru ami roared "down on tho farm." There aro n world of things I do not know and many I am not sure about, hut ono thing I do fool positive of and that la: that should all business and Industry collapse today, a plot of land that will produco food for an empty stomach will ho something of Intrin sic value, tomorrow I, Ilka thousands of others In the spring of 1917, after struggling thru soverul years of hard work and effort In trying to obtain some measure of training to mako bolter citizens of ourselTcs, wero ready to launch our various careers, but tho war came on and there was only one thing to do, namely, get Into tho tight. Alt of which was only our reasonablo por tion of service to our country. I be Here I can approach In feeling, ex perience and aspirations something o tho average ox-scrvlce man, as t have spent about two years In tho uniform and near eleven months of that time was spent ''over there' with tho 91st Division. And from those experiences and conditions it is impossible for us to bo othor than changed mon. Wo have probably nindo many mistakes since returning to our respectlvo communities and will likely make many more, but I am suro it Is our wish to do tho right thing, and mako good, positive citizens. While I vol unteercd my services freely and unrO' sorvedly, 1 do not In any manner lay special claim to our government's bounties or gratuities, othor than those provided through the regular channels of iusuranco, compensation, etc., and X not only hope not, but do not believe tho average ex-service man holds such an attitude towards his country. For, In tho broadest sense, his service was u privilege. However, in recognition of our services and to express in a concrete form the nation's appreciation of what its men has done during the World War, it seems to be nationally understood that some uniform plan will be adopted whereby wo will bo given the opportunity of having a t.uiu homo and soon start with u lit tle "nest egg" all our own. AH of which wo ex-service men aro natur ally, vitally Interested in. It seems to bo tho concensus of opinion thnt the most practical plan would be to arrange for each man to have a plot of productive land whoro be could have a home, ,for then ho would be financially Interested In America, and would bo a producer and a factor in our government. To bring about this desirable re sult there seems to bo a number of things to consider, and not tho least of these Is that no particular Interest can be considered to the exclusion of I all others, for we find ourselves In ter-dependent. The crying need now is for devel opment. And it goes without saying that the greatest of theso now, in this partcular section and for per manent value Is agricultural develop ment Thopn aooitiu In l,o i nnlnfitl lack of co-operation and co-ordlna-!
