Bchuldcrman, corpora tion commissioner of tho state of Oregon, Saturday announced his In tention of filing as a candidate for tho Republican nomination for secre tary of state Mr. Schuldorman made the following statement: "If nominated for secretary of state and elected at tho goneral election. I shall conduct tho offico on strictly business lines, .cutting down expenses wherovor possible nnd securing economy and ofilcloncy as I have dono In tho ofllco of corporation commissioner. "Tho secretary of stato Is a mom bor of .the board of control, and as such baa many Important duties. Should I bocome a member of that body I shall also exert my Influence to conduct tho state's affairs and in stitutions also upon a strictly busi ness basis, eliminating waste and ex travagance and spending the money raised through taxation to the very best advantage. "In submitting my candidacy for tho nomination for secretary of state to tho Republican voters, I wish to point to my record In reducing ex penses In tho office of corporation commissioner, to my familiarity with Important business matters and to my experience as an executive ac quired In the conduct of that office. If the Republican voters will exa in itio minutely my past record, and qualifications, I am content to leave my candidacy jn their hands." Mr. Schuldorman was born In Portlund, Oregon, In 1873, and comes from a well-known pioneer family. His mother was also born In Portland nnd his father, Peter H. Schuldorman, had lived In Oregon fifty years before his death a year ago. ills early education was ac quired at the Couch school and the Hlsbop Scott academy. After his graduation he entered tho Univer sity of Oregon Law school and also Joined tho Oregon national guard, being a member of company I, serv ing his full term and securing an honorablo discharge. After graduating from the law school, ho entered, business for a short period, becoming manager of tho Merchants Express and Trans portation company, operating, be tween Portland and Vancouver, nfler which he actively began the practleo of law. In 1915 ho was appointed cor poration commissioner, to fill an un expired term, and In 1917 he was re-nppolnted by Governor Withy. combo for a four-year term. Mr. Schuldorman points out to his successful administration of tho ofllco of corporation commissioner In urging his candidacy. In his first year's administration, he states that ho reduced the expenses of the ofllco $4,000, saving more than his salary, and last year. In splto of high costs, ho conductedyhls ofllco for less than tho. previous year. . In 1903 Mr. Schulderman and Miss Lutlo C. Ford, a Portland girl, wore married. Thoy have two chil dren. Mr. Schulderman has a wide acquaintance throughout tho state, Is a member of several clubs and societies, and has received many offers of voluntary support in his campaign, but will continue to give closo personal attention to the duties oi ins present omce.
