MERRILL OPERA HOUSE MOTION PICTOTIEH TUESDAYS AND SATURDAYS Merrill, Ongoa , TOKIO, Doc. 26. Tho Japanoso government, according to tho news papers yesterday, decided to discon tinue the issuance of passports per mitting "picture brides" to proceed to tho United States, which practice has been tho cause of somo anti-Japanese feeling in America, according to recent advices reaching here. Into tho rural village for tho set ting, and into n woman's itoul for tho thomo, David Wnrk Griffith has gono for the mutorluls of his now Artcraft picture "Truo Heart Susie," which will bo shown at tho Star Theatre tonight. Ho has choson thrco characters, typical und definite in tho domestic life of America, familiar to tho resi dents In ovory small ptaco and most largo ones. Ono Is that of n lovable, loyal girl, who has a chanco to marry hut ono man, and when that man passes her by, ages her soul with tears, and woarlcH her days with waiting. Another is a young man who goes to college, returns with comical con celt, tho premlqr of swains, as serl ous to hlmsolf as tho measles. And tbo third Is a girl who considers mar- rlago never a union of hearts but a necessary patronago, a wlfo of sub sidy rather than of lovo. With those persons, Mr. Griffith has arranged u story of wondrous charm, piquant In the delightful subtleties of churacter dollncatlon, a warm, wholesome story of lovo won and lovo denied. Ho devotes his deep perception of tho Infinite varieties of each heart, to these threo young persons, each whetted by nature to realize the fullness of life's experi ences, yet each held from doing Just what he or sho should. Lillian GIsh appears as the girl who waits, a repressed role which ab sorbs the full powor of hor acting. Robert Harron, as tho boy who be comes a minister, will remind tho world of some It knows, and glvo to It a chuckle novor forgotten. Clarlno Seymour is Introduced as a merry young milliner from Chicago. A new adventuro story, with In trigue and romance closely interwov en In the gripping plot, will be shown at "the Liberty theatre today in tho clever Metro production "Hitting tho High Spots," with Bort Lytoll as tho star. Following his usual courso this young actor is ugain seen in a rod- Kooded drama Wilch gives him groat opportunity for his dramatic as well us athletic abilities, The story takes tho boholder to loxlco with tho young engineer who has determined to save some Amorl- enn-ownod oil wolls from bolng con fiscated by robel Mexicans in a flerco and bloody revolution. Ho Is mot vllh treachery and disaster nearly ovurwholins him. Ho Is snvod, how uver by tho duvotlon of n young girl whom ho had befriended earlier In th) play. Having conquered In his fight for tho oil wells ho hns almost lost tho girl ho loves. .JIow ho comos out on top is thrllllngly shown In this clever play which Is unusual In Iti many tinlquo nnd during situa tions.
