Tho Italian gov ernment is trying to obtain coal from Southern Russia so as to stave off tho menace of a winter without a j source of heat. Two commercial com missions havo been sent to the vast ' basin of tho Donetz in Southern Rus-. sla where Italian experts estimated I there were untouchel coal lands that I would yield 57,000,000,000 of tons. Tho experts also say there are 174.- 000,000,000 of tons of coal in Siber ia or in parts of European Rusia out side of the Donetz basin. It is calculated that if the coal sup ply of Southern Russia were properly exploited the territory would furn ish all the coal necessary for the Mediterranean countries. Coal for Italy is now quoted at $550 at Norfolk, but it costs $30 a ton to bring it to Genoa. Surety bonds while yon wait.
