The lecture by Judge lec-rge U.
Alden how can It best bo described?
One of the most versatile men on the
public platform, possessed ot 'teen
foresight and a wonderfully analyti
cal mind, a man ot wide experience
and wider literary attainments, his
lecture could be nothing else but an
epitome of elevating, eye-opening
Ideas on "The Needs of the Hour."
J While Judge Alden picked his char
acters from "away back In Maine,
New Hampshire and Vermont," there
was none present who but realized
that it was the present day American
that was so vividly pictured; tha'
right here In Klamath Falls and
every other city Is to be found the
prototype of the tobacco-Juice marks
man, sitting on his cracker-box
throne, who pilloried the "malefac
tors of griur veUti." while fee him
self "watered his milk and sanded
his sugar and robbed his friends and
neighbors." Truthfully did the Judcn
say that It Is not a case ot "making
the' world safe for democracy so
much as making It sate tor Christian
ity." That we need to turn to Ood
and away from Mammon nnd that
every man and woman should follow
Him who gave up his life on the
cross on calvary If we aro to get away
from the blasting influences that al
ways follow religlt us decad"S.e.
