A call has been issued from Nntion
nl Headquarters for certain knitted
articles for the use of the women
and children in tho war devastated
countries.
.The recent request to Chapters t-
j"stack their needles" was b3sod on
the fact that all garments .necessary
for the,use of the soldiers and sailors
are made and In stock.
We are now faced, however, with
another need, that of the deitltnte
women and children. This need la
to a degree which few of us at home
can possibly realize. Pitiable stories
are told of thousands of children who
are barefooted and- barelegged wiilio
snow and ice Is upon the ground. To
help In this emergency we are isl:ei
to knit up the supply of yarn on hand
in Chapters and Division Warehouse
as soon as possible.
Wo trust that every knitter will
plan to get their yarn and push the
work forward as rapidly as possible.
This Is an appeal to the womon
and children of America to assb', the
women and children of less fortu
nate countries. The task of knfttlr.g
articles for the soldiers and sailors
has been done and finished. We trust
that our knitters will take up this
new work with equal enthusiasm.

SCENES THAT MAKE "THE RAINBOW
TRAIL" A CLASSIC
He was awakened by violence. It was the gray
hour before dawn. Dark forms knelt over htm.
A cloth pressed down hard over his mouth.
Strong hands bound it while strong hands held
him. He could not cry out He could not strug
gle. A heavy weight evidently a man, held down
his feet. Then he rolled over, securely bound,
and carried, to be thrown like a sack. .. ..
"In an instant he realized his. position. He had
been dropped intentionally upon an ant heap,
which had sunk under his weight, wedging him
between the crusts. At the mercy of those terri
ble desert ants!" From Zane Grey's novel,
"The Rainbow Trail."
