BOLSHEVIKISM
SAID DOST
IN BY
VIENNA. (Correspondence of the
Associated Press). Tho menace of
Bolshevism has created a critical si
tuation in Hungary whoso generat
outlook is considered infinitely wore
than in German-Austria. Under th
present government the condition of
the- country Is described as chaotic
an a serious Bolshevik outbreak i
ekpected. With Its army disbanded
the government Is unable to offer re
sistance even if It had tho courage
and energy to do so.
Public mopeys, It is asserted, are
being "squandered" at an "appalling
rate" and' fording financiers oxpresto
fear of bankruptcy of the state. The
whole situation of the country Is re
ported to be "Inconceivably worse
than at anytime during the four years
of war."
The government fe preparing to
hold general elections- but under the
-present conditions this appears to be
s: -physical impossibility. There are
no lists of voters, and tbe franchise
hW been extended from 1,540,009 to
"'.dOO.o'oo Including women wh
have oeen granted suffrage. Witb
part of the country occupied 'by en
emies' elections la these districts will
be impossible, It is declared.
The tear of Bolshevism Is growing
dally and everywhew the people are
urging that the allies' intervene. They
express the fear that die condition
now existing in Russia will' be repeat
ed In Hungary. Hungarian- prisoners
of war have returned from' Russia
Imbued with Bolshevik Ideas-and arc
spreading the propaganda.. IV Is- the
general opinion of the people- that
tbe Karolyi Cabinet made a mistake
In disbanding the army learfm? tftw
country at the mercy of the Invader.
While the greatest dissatlsfMtfoa
Is expressed In political circles and
among the people generally, and nrfa
tsterlal crises are dally occurrences.

Count Karolyi appears to be the
