to construct, at an estimated coat of
one thousand one hundred ninety

gether with all necessary catch baalas,
manholes, lampholes and breaches)

form system ot numbering has passed
the council.
Under authority of the ordinance
Mr. R. L. GritHb, postman, baa been
appointed to carry out Its provisions.
Tho action of the Conacll was made
accessary by reason of tbe confusion
of numbering In portions of the city
already numbered, and the lack of
numbering In some of the additions.
The numbering aad re-numbering
la to be completed by April 1. 1918,
and Is now under way. The work can
be greatly facilitated by co-operation
of the cltltens, aad it Is to be hoped
that their aid will be forthcoming, as
It Is a matter of considerable Import
ance In more ways than one.
Mr. Orl-ata will carry with him a
copy of the ordinance duly certified,
and be prepared to furnish any Infor
mation In connection with the num
bering or renumbering of houses and
places of buslaeee.
Tbe ordinance provides that a num.
ber shall be applied to every 11 H
feet of frontage, except In a few In
stances, where property has not been
subdivided Into lot eubdlvlsloas, and
between the river aad First street on
Main and streets parallel thereto.
Tbe numbering on cross streets
shall begin northerly aad southerly
from Mala street, and shall be deslg.
aated In addresses as north aad south,
first, 8econd, Third, etc., as tbe case
may be.
The numbering of Palrvlew Addi
tions One and Two starts at Upham
street, with 1100 and 1101, and run
nlng north, 'and from tbe west line of
the cemetery with 700 running west,
Michigan avenue numbering starts
at Main atreet with 100 and 101 for
tho first 916 feet, and so on to Wall
street. Suiting again at Wall street
with 100 and 101 and continue.
Numbering on Pacific Terrace be
gins at Erie street with 400 and 401,
and runs northwesterly. All blocks
on streets parallel with Pacific Tar-
race to carry eame 100 numbers as on
Facile Terrace.
Numbering on Esplanade begins at
Main street with 1100 aad 1101. con
tinning to Michigan avenue. Starting
again at Michigan aveaae with 1600
aad 1601 aad continuing to Eldorado,
Urtlng again at Eldorado with 1700
and 1701 aad 00 on to Earl, and
suiting again at Earl with 1800 and
1801.
Portland street begins numbering
at Crescent, suiting with 1300 and
