PORTLAND, Oct. 1.9. Heading up
the various efforts for greater pro
duction from the soil and conserva
tion of food supplies, the Manufactur.
erg and Land Products Show will be
opened at the new Auditorium, Port
land, November 3d. The big show
will be open to the public for nine
teen days, and will represent the best
iu soil culture and Industrial devel
opment in the Northwest. Every
county in Oregon and Southwestern
Washington will be represented in the
complete exposition.
The primary purpose of the exposi
tion Is to introduce more fully to the
men and women of the Northwest
the ultimate consumers the pro
ducts of the farms, the orchards, and
the dairies of Oregon, and the indus
trial plants, shops and factories of
the state. The presentation is to be
made In a manner that will appeal to
every citizen. Being educational In
its purpose, the show will aim to
teach the consumers of the North
west that home industry stands for
all that is conducive to the develop
ment of latent resources, both human
and material.
The show will be held at the new
municipal Auditorium, constructed at
a cost of 1600,000, giving every fa
cility "for making displays attractive
and for handling large crowds. Two
floors will be occupied by the show.
The industrial displays and the soil
products will be on the main floor.l
the manufacturers' pavilion In the
basement. The auditorium is near
the business center, with ample street
car service for the largest crowds in
the evenings, without delays.
The dairy interests of the North
west will be represented by a magnifi
cent display. The large creameries
of Portland are preparing an exhibit
of the products of the cow, to occupy
a space approximately 30x60 feet,
Hh a complete refrigerating plant in
operation. The display will be one of
the really great features of the land
show.
The show management Is also pre
paring an exhibit of potatoes and
onions raised by dry farming meth
ods in the plateau country of Cen
tral. Oregon. It has been shown that
a very high grade potato can be raised
on eight or ten Inches of rainfall an
nually, where proper cultural meth
ods are followed.
