Loan Committee of the second Fed
eral Reserve District began prepare-
tions todar for floatina- the second
liberty loan sometime early In the
Fall. The date and the Interest to
be offered have not been determined
yet.
It Is expected that the new loan
will be offered about September 15th.
MRS. KESTERSON PASSES
The death of Mrs. Kestersoa, wife
of the saw mill operator near Dorris
yesterday, has been reported. Mrs.
Kestersoa suffered from heart trouble
and a complication of cither diseases.
Mrs. E. W. Gowan. Jr.. and mother,
Mrs. A. L. Morris with Miss Gertrude
Foster of San Francisco, went to
Crater Lake yesterday. They went
by way of Cblloquin and were Joined
there My Ed Gowan.

LONDON, Aug. 8 Four Americans
among a crew of thirty-eight were
drowned when the British Steamer
Belgian Prince" was submarined on
July 31st. One American Is among
the three aurvlvors, who say that the
submarine shelled the Teasel and ord
ered the crew to assemble on the sub
marine's deck where their life belts
and clothing were removed.
The submsrlne then traveled four
milea along the surface before dlvlni

Cross dividends declared when the
campaign to raise $100,000,000 was

when Ralph Hale, fined thirty dol-
lars and costs for beating his wife
passed temporarily Into oblivion, on
hearing sentence pronounced. The
officers allege however that the faint

spelled feint and that his condition
was at no time serious.
Hale was found guilty of beating
his wife Sunday night and of drag
ging her down the street on Monday.
Mrs. Hale has been working at a
boarding house near the Pelican Bay
Lumber Company. Halo was unable
