OtVe MS IS INTERESTING TALKS ARE GIVEN AT CATHOLIC CHURCH There Is a series of interesting talks being given each night this and next week at tbe Catholic church. Eighth and High streets, at 8 o'clock. They are intended for all who desire to know and speak intelligently of the Catholic church. - The Question Box will be a feature of these exercises. Everyone has some questions they would like to ask In regard (o religion or the Catholic church. Do not hesitate to propose them. We welcome inquiry, especial ly from those who are honestly op posed to us. Perhaps the people of Klamath Falls Lhave often heard the Catholic church described as an enemy to liberty, prog ress and good morals. At any rate, garbled versions of history, "bogus or ex-priexts," scurrilous books and papers, have poisoned with prejudice and misunderstanding, the minds of many otherwise well-intentioned peo ple. Should they not then show that broad, liberal American spirit that is always ready to bear the other side of the question, by coming to these lec tures? No money will be asked; no collections taken up. Those wbo love the Catholic religion should attend and bear the founda tions of tbe ancient faith reviewed and vindicated. Those wbo HATE tbe Catbolic religion should attend, to find out whether or not their aversion is well founded. PATRIOTISM requires us to eliminate sectionalracial and religious enemitles; CHARITY re quires us to love others and not bate them; JUSTICS forbids us to falsify or misjudge even one of our fellow citizens, much less millions of tbem. IN A SPIRIT OF FAIRNESS AND KINDNESS, THESE SHOULD COME AND FIND OUT FOR THEMSELVES. Those wbo are INDIFFERENT about tbe Catholic religion (do not care, one way or the other) should at tend. Do tbey not wlsb to be well in formed upon every question of far reaching Importance? But tbe Cath olic cburcb commends itself to tbe atudy of every Intelligent and know! edge seeking mind. ALL, regardless of creed, abould at' tend these lectures. All ere most wel eaaw; an will be treated peUtely, ebar- H Duut aCteat? White Pelican Garage SHERIFFS ARE NOTIFIED ABOUT CONSCRIPTION Continued from Page 1 assisting In clerical work and band ling the general details." In outlining the plan of the work, the gove'rnor notified the sheriffs of their duties, aa follews: Registration will be conducted through the usual channels: that Is, the county and local precinct officials. Kach county will bo a unit by Itself; all acting under the general supervi sion and with the cooperation of this office. County Beards Named At the suggestion of the secretary of war, the governor deslKnates the sher iff, county clerk ami county physician as the official registration board for the county. It Is hoped, and expected, that so faryas possible the services of the arlous officials and clerks will be giv en without compensation, as a volun tary patriotic contribution to the gret work of mobllltlng the nation's re sources for war time efficiency. Immediately upon the signing of the completed bill by the president there will be sent to me Instructions cover Ing all details of state, county and precinct registration. Also, there will be mailed from Washington, direct to leach sheriff, all the necessary blanks. Should these not reach you, a reserve supply will be available at this office. Hatte Is Essential The secretary of war dwells upon the great Importance of the utmost hnte In getting the registration work under way. It Is the most stupendous task of the kind yet undertaken in this country, and the immediate success of organising the proposed armies by selective draft depends upon the effi ciency and prompt co-operation of the state, county and precinct organiza tions. I an. therefore, writing this letter to tnfnrTi vnll nt wfcnt Onimfl tin tuMlfl .,...... ... w. ..... v. .... .. . w. .. called upon to do. Until you receive your fellow county and precinct offi cials, with the end that general prepar ation may be made for prompt and effi cient conduct of tbe work. Volunteers Are Nttdtd You will please Inform your county clerk and county, physician that you three comprise 'the registration board for your county. I also suggest that you call for volunteers who will co operate In the considerable clerical and detail work which will be re quired. The assistance of local com mercial and municipal organizations would be valuable, and should be en listed. Here Is a practical opportunity for public spirited men and women of your county to co-operate with you In this ! big national undertaking, upon which in such a large measure depends tbe success of our military organization. While this office Is responsible for tbe conduct of the war census In Ore gon, the details or administration will be conducted, under my supervision, through the office of the adjutant gen eral of Oregon, whoso address is 640 Morgan building, Portland. Queries concerning the conduct of the work should, so far an possible, be addressed to him, and every assistance and co operation will be rendered by both his and this office. It Is my earnest desire that Oregon shall acquit herself creditably, and I n.slc for your utmost co-operation and the patriotic uxsUtance of the citizens of your county. that everybody art. s-Hi LIMITING NUMBER OF BILLS INTRODUCED INCRBAS.
