ALttOMA. April 25. (Special Cor
respondence) The Algoma Lumber
company's logging camp resembles a
beehive of Industry. New railroads are
belmc built; new shacks are being put
up, and preparations are being made
to make this the biggest year since
the camp started.
Sixty-five men are employed now,
and this number i constantly being in
creased. When logging operation com
mences in earnest the camp will em
ploy 150 men.
A new donkey engine, a Seattle of
the latest type, will arrive in a few
days.
Jack White's establishment Jack I
the cook is a very popular one. He
says that if the boys show to oa good
advantage In the woods as they do at
hi place, it Is tbe best crew that he
has ever seen. This is a good boost,
for Jack has cooked from Alaska to
Mexico.
Britishers Colobrate
PORTLAND. Ore., .April 25. Al
though May 24th in the calendar Is
Empire Day, Britishers In Portland
will, observe Empire Day May 26th
with a big celebration in tbe audi
torium of the Lincoln high school.
The change was made because Cap
tain Leh Hay Beltb. of the British
army, better known by his pen name,
Dan Hay, will speak in Portland on
tbe 24th.
