New Freight Rates
Effective February 4
Reduction of About 40 Per Cent
Rates From California Points to
Klamath Falls
The expected reduction in the freight
rates between San Francisco and other
California points and Klamath Falls,
scheduled to take effect the first or
this month, will not go into effect until
February 4th. according to word re
ceived from Bishop & Babler, the
San Francisco rate attorneys, retained
by the Klamath Falls business men to
forward this matter.
The case was brought before the
California Railway Commission, and a
I eduction of approximately 40 per cent

the peace note because he didn't want
it to cpme back from abroad in a gar
bled form and injuriously affect the
stock market," declared Archie Janus
son, reporter on the Central News of
America, when on the witness stand to

DIES AT BONANZA
lYank IJghtfoot, for many years a
pioneer or -Klamath county, died yes
terday at Bonansn. Ughtfoot had
been ailing for some time.
The deceased was 66 years of age,
.ind came to Klamath county about
wenty years ago. He leaves no rela
tives here. At the time ot his demise
the deceased was subcontractor on the
Lanell Valley mall route.
Recommend Zeppelin
WASHINGTON. D .C, Jan. 10. The
joint committee of army and navy offi
cers today recommended the immedi
ate construction of a large airship of
the Zeppelin type. The secretaries of
war and navy have approved the rec
ommendation. in
ordered. The Southern Pacific declare
they are "giving consideration" to a
drop of from $1.61 to $1.21 on first
class freight between San Francisco
and Klamath Falls, and a correspond
iug reduction in the other classes.
This reduction is not considered suf
ficient by the attorneys, who declare
they will prosecute the matter further
