State .Mine Workers Union through
Its executive committee, today sent
resolutions to President Wilson and
Governor Willis, demanding a nation-1
al and state Investigation of the high
cost of living. The resolution says
that "illegal and unfair speculation In
food stuffs and other necessities Is
causing actual hunger and distress in
families where the men are steadily
employed."

man occupant of the shell-scarred bat

the French triumphantly entered It,
wns a nondescript dog, and ho Is now
being treated with all the honors of

Such was their haste in abandoning
the fort that the Germans left behind
a million .cartridges, three thousand
meat rations, three thousand bottles
of mineral water and large quantities
of anti-tetanus serums and other
