FEW FOLKS WUIE GRAY HAIR NOW ORUQQIBT AY6 LADIES ARE UtlNd RECIPE OF SAGE TEA AND SULPHUR Hair that loses its color and lustre, or when it fades, turns gray, dull and lifeless, la caused by a lack of sulphur la tke hair. Our grandmother made up aUftvra of Sage Tea and Sulphur to keep bar locks dark and beautiful, arid 'thousands of women and men wlio value that even cololr, that beautiful daik shade of hair which is so attract Ire, use only this old time recipe. Nowadays we get this famous mix tare Improved by the addition of other Ingredients by asking at any drug store for a 69 cent bottle of "Wyetb'a Sage aad Sulphur Compound." which dark M the hair ao naturally, ao evenly, that nobody can possibly tell it has bee applied. You Just dampen a sponge or soft brush with it, and draw this through your hair, taking one Bull strand at a time. By morning the gray hair disappears; but what de lights the ladles with Wyeth's Sage tad Sulpbur "Compound Is that, be sides beautifully darkening the balr after few applications, It also brings back ike gloss aud luUu, and give it a appearance of abundance. Wyeth's Sags and Sulpbur Com ftaid to a delightful toilet requisite te tapart color aad a youthful appear MM to tbs balr. It la not Intended for the) ears, atitlaaUaa or prevention of EVISING of the load laws of the state and adoption of a business sj stein in road construction, is recom mended In a statement issued by En gineer Lewis, In which it is claimed that about $6,000,000 is wasted year ly on roads in Oregon. He points out that the counties of the state are expending In a haphaz ard manner from $4,000,000 to ?G, 000 COO annually on approximately o 7,000 miles of load. This sum of money, he sajs, is o. rended by 105 county judges and commissioners, thirty-five county sur veyors, four roadmasters. 80 10 id sin orvisors and the highway commis sion, and while "In general these men are 1 onest, they are disorganized." "Frequent changes in office, occa sional recalls and reorganizations make It very difficult for the public to profit by past experience," he con tinues. "Having only limited powers and without any substantial policy to adhere to, these state and county offi cials are dragged around by Interest ed property owners, enthusiastic cit izens who have pet projects, or by de signing contractors and material men, and forced to spend public money on small, disconnected, hastily consider ed, inadequately financed, unrelated projects, w Ithout regard to the larger plans of Interest to the whole people. "We must have a definite plan adopted by tho legislature defining the principal routes for inter-county and inter-state traffic as state routes," he says in suggesting remedies. "Whenever a section or portion of a state route has been permanently im proved by the state It should there after be taken over and maintained as a state road at the expense of the state, the county to care for such a-; road prior to Its becoming a state toad. The main county roads should be built and maintained under the general direction of the county courts. These roads will serve as feeders to the main or trunk lines which carry the concentrated traffic. The local or district roads should be largely under district control. Different standards should be provided for each class, and sufficient overhead supervision had to insure that these standards be follow ed at least on inter-county and inter state routes." The Paclflc highway, he declares, would be of strategic value in case of invasion of the coast, and he calls at tention to the fact that while it is about 50 per cent complete in Wash ington and California, Oregon has scarcely mado a beginning. The Co lumbia River highway is an impoit ant road, but only partially complet ed, and the proposed cross-state route from Portland across the Cascade range up to the John Day Valley would open a great undeveloped sec tion of the state to auto truck traffic, he says. ssekssSb ..xv r-ST Hh 11 .111.11 11SP ill I Intn I1I1 fliml tu'coiint of tho nilmlnlatrn-jnficr to liocomo dun nml J0 n ,.
