Years ngo the only way to get Ibis mlxtuie was to make it at home, which is musi.y and troublesome. Nowadays we simply ask at any drug store for "Wyeth'a Sage and Sul phur Compound." You will get a large fcottl of tkla old time recipe Improv ed by the addition of other Ingredients, for about SO cents. Everybody uses this preparation now, because no one can possibly tell that you darkened your hair, as it does it so naturally and evenly. You dampen a sponge or soft brush with II, and draw this through your hair, taking one small strand at time; by morning the gray hair dis appears, and after another applica tion or two, your hair becomes beauti fully dark, thick and glossy, and you look years younger. Wweth's Sage and Sulphur Compound Is a delight Ml toilet requisite. It Is not Intended for the euro, mitigation or prevention of disease. Adv. FADE & SHANNON PLUMBING AND STEAM FITTING Steves Bought Sold and Repaired Furnaces Installed SHEET METAL WORK OF ALL KINDS 1023 Main St. (The following facts regarding Ru mania's military strength were ob tained at Bucharest by Henry Wood. United Press staff correspondent, dur ing a recent tour of the Balkans.) Rumania's entrance into the war places a thoroughly drilled and equip ped army of nearly 600,000 men along side the allies. Of the actual fighting value of the modern Rumanian army, nothing definite can yet be told, as It has never been put to the test. During the two recent Balkan wars, Rumania, of all the Balkan states. alone kept out of the struggle. The organization and equipment of the Rumanian army has been praised by many experts. Rumania's military service is obligator' on all able bodied men between 21 and 46 years of age. This gives the country 50,000 new sol diers a ear, and enables Rumania, out of a population of 7,000,000, to mus ter an army of over half a million. Although Rumanian youths liable for military service do not begin duty until they are 21 years of age, as a matter of fact they are at the disposal of the minister of war after their nine teenth year. From the time they are 19 until they are 21, they are obliged to participate in target and gymnastic drills every Sunday from April 1st to November 30th. During the first seven years of military service the men belong to the active army. They then pass to the re serves, where they serve for twelve years, finally passing into the militia for the remainder of their term of ser vice until they are 46 years of age. The militia is supposed to be liable for service only in maintaining the inter nal order of the country and in guard ing the railroads during war times. This organization gives Rumania a total of 250,000 first line troops, and about 400,000 reserves. The regular standing army consists of 5.000 offi cers, 1,000 military students, 100,000 troops, 25,000 horses. COO cannon ai,d 200 machine guns. Part of the army has been mobilized for some time near the Hungarian frontier. The infantry organizations of first line troops consists of forty regiments composed of three battalions of four companies each per regiment. Each regiment has also an extra company at the depot, together with one section of two machine guns. There are also eighty battalions of reserves and twelve companies of gendarmes. The cavalry consists of ten regi ments or red hussars and ten regi ments of black hussars. The cavalry regiments consists of four squadrons for service at the front and one squad ron for depot work. The artilery consists of twenty regi ments of first line troops, each regi ment being composed of six batteries of four guns each. There are ulso twenty regiments of artillery reserves. In addition, there Is a full organiza tion of engineers and transport trains. Rumania's chief reason for entering the war is the hope of annexing to her present territory the two Austrian provinces or Transylvania and Buko wlna. They are inhabited largely by Rumanians. While all the other Bal kan states are Interested in securing land in the Balkan peninsula, Ru mania's aspirations lie to the north. Still another factor separates Ru mania from the other Balkan states, that of race. The Rumanian pride himself on being of Latin origin, and traces his stock back to one of the col onies sent out by Emperor Trajan. PIANK, 41 TOOAY, W0N7QUIT YEI SOUTHPAW HURLER OF SIXTEEN SEASONS AND MANY WORLD'S SERIES BATTLES, THINKS FIVE MORE YEARS IN HIM By HAMILTON (United Press Staff Correspondent) NEW YORK, Aug. 31. Eddie Plank, hero of many world's series, battles, is 41 years old today. The southpaw mas ter, several times relegated to the scrap heap by fans and sporting writ pis, and once by Connie Mack, still Is in the game, and the present season promises to be one of the best In his long career. Early this month Plank allowed only seven hits in three games, winning ev ery one of them. And it was his form er team mates, the Athletics, who In oke his winning streak August 18th, in a tight pitching battle. Plank left Gettysburg College to be come a member of the Athletics In 1901. Hence this is his sixteenth yegr as a big league hurler. He helped the Athletics to pennants in 1902, 1905, 1910. 1911, 1913 and 1914. When Connie Mack began the dis memberment of his famous team early in 1914, among the first to go were Jack Combs and Eddie Plank, and both of them went by the unconditional re lease routs. "When I quit the game," he said, "It will be because I'm tired of it. I think in five more years I'll be ready to stay at home." That would make him 45 when he quits. "Pitching It a job." he said. "It must be studied by the pitcher. He must study the other fellow, the bat ter, and learn what be cannot hit. I never have had any trouble with the great batters, with the exception of Cobb. You can't fool Cobb. He will hit most anything." Plank declares be never curves a ball In spring training until at least a week has passed, and attributes the long service of his arm to that fact.
