The charge has been free ly made that German inluences. In cluding Germanvmoaey, were responsi ble. This Is hotly denied, not only by the men Involved, but by labor lead ers generally. It is much to the credit of organised labor In this country, however, that the strikers have been roundly de nounced by the responsible heads of the labor movement Even those labor leaders who are aVowed padnsta, like George Lans- bury. have condemned them. "We pacilsts," says Lanabury, "dare not interfere with the eaaentlal sup plies needed by the army and navy until the nation gives the word to stopUie war.' It toN simply murder to send men out unarmed and Im properly equipped. It la our own Sash and blood In the trenches, and at what ever coat, we who remain at home must do nothing to hinder them.1! Lansbury ascribes the troubles on the Clyde chiefly to lack of sympathy, between employers and, workmen. aaV liar to that prevailing in' the South Wales coalfields. One of the moat radical, aa well as most troublesome labor, leaders he fore the war-waa Ben Tillett. of the transport workers' union, who in the last few months has been going up and down the country preaching patriot ism aad loyalty among his fellow work ers, and urging them to Join the army- Few men have been more bitter in tbelr denunciation of the action of the Clyde strikers, but even Tillett haa been able to see "the other side" of the question. They got ,to Wutto Horse, thirty-two miles from headquarters, with an automobile, hut beyond that point the snow goto very deep rapidly. The new road from Whiskey Creek is opened aad ready for travel. It enters the park at the rim of Castle Creek canyon and fol lows it for about mU' BMkuS tractive entrance and provicung n gooa road, greatly in contrast with the old road and entrance. The snow increases in depth to the summit, along which. for a distance of two miles it averages about four feet in depth.' At park head quarters it averages about two feet deep, On the Klamath side similar condi tions prevail, it being possible to set to Pole Bridge Creek with aa automo bile, three miles from headquarters.
