A FEELING 6f disgust and resent
ment Is sweeping over Klamath
county as a result of the campaign of j
vilification being conducted by C. M.
Onelll and John Irwin. In their vain
hope that they can secure votes by be-
sirirching the character of honest men.
'Tho time when a candidate for po
litical favor could "get by" with aa at
tempt to distract attention from his
owu leck of ability and Qualifications,
by a campaign of mud slinging against
hU ODDonent has long since past To
day a man must win on his ntneas, his
honesty and his ability. If he lacks
these qualifications, all the howl he
may put up about "political rings,"
and "combines"' will avail him nothing.
That old "gag" of the polltlciaa of
long ago In his attempt to appeal to
prejudice by proclaiming that he was
the original "friend of the farmer"
and" the "friend of the laboring man,"
and how in his early career he-had
labored and tolled and was In sym
pathy with you men who "live by the
aweat of your brow," has been thrown
Into the discard along with the muck
raking and mud slinging campaigns. It
was used more than forty years ago,
and only causes contempt in the minds
of Intelligent people of today.
Ability, honesty, fairness, dignity
and impartiality, are the requisites of
a man capable of filling the office of cir
cuit judge. Mr. Onelll has conclusively
shown during his campaign that he
Is utterly lacking in every one of
these qualifications, and in addition he
is dally proving to 'the people of the
county that-he is devoid of common
decency. .
During Mr. Irwin's term of nearly
four years he has served under three
circuit judges, and there have been
five separate newspapers during that
time. He charges that all of these
judges and newspapers were against
him, as well as the sheriff's office, Jus-

men, who know Irwin, and as there
were several hundred of these during
Irwin's term, their influence will have
a big effect on the election.
Irwin realizes too late bis mistake in
accusing the Jurymen of violating their
oaths and being Influenced by the court
and by the Herald and other parties,
which he claimed were antagonistic to
him. These Jurymen are all taxpayers
and permanent residents of the county,
and are among the most respected and
Influential citizens. They know, after
spending from ten to thirty days listen
ing to Irwin conduct a case, why be al
ways failed. They do not intend to
give him a chance to fall again.
