Woodrow Wilson in "His tory of the American People." The Spoken Werd: "One of the things which has immortalized the in fluence of Thomas Jefferson has been that his was the spirit of humanity exemplified upon the field of America. Thomas Jefferson was a great leader of men because he understood and In terpreted the spirits of men . The only way we can honor Thomas Jefferson is by illustrating his spirit and following his example. His ex ample was an example of organiza tion and concerted action for the rights of men, first in America and then by America's example everywhere in the world. HUMANE EDUCATION PLAN THE.PRONENESS of the world to resort to war shows the need of education to develop humane ideab in the rising generations. Ella Wheeler Wilcox makes a plea and submits a general plan for introducing humane education in the public schools, and shows what a great work has been done In the public schools of Roches ter, N. Y. Where at one time an oc casional lecture was given, now all the children in the public schools of that city are shown why they should be kind to animals. BOOSTING FOR KLAMATH By HOWARD WINNARD Klamath County High School Student FEW YEARS AGO this town ex perienced a "boom." Everybody "boosted" for all they were worth. It is a fact that when the town Is on the jump every one is ready to boost for it, but the minute the boom begins to slack everybody begins to knock. At least, so it was with Klamath. Sud denly everyone seemed to go to sleep on the job. The outside capital that had had Its attention called to Klam ath and the surrounding country, lost interest through the indifference of the people. For about two years there has been a slight Improvement in the boosting this town has done. People have act ually begun to wake up to the possi bilities that lie just outside their doors. An attempt to get another railroad through here has been made, the suc cess of which is yet to be determined. Attempts have also been made to get new industries started here. So far, so good. But if every soul in Klamath Falls would begin tomorrow to write to their friends about Klamath, talk Klamath, dream Klamath, think Klam ath, and everlastingly boost for Klam ath, think what an improvement there would be here inside of the next six months.
