Unprecedented demands fuel olt from warring countries, for 2. Greatly Increased domestic con sumption. 3. Higher transportation charges on crude oil from the refinery to the place of delivery, both by rail and by water. 4. Prospects of a diminishing sup ply. And these are takes so seriously by the United Statea gorernmeat that Attorney General Gregory la mobilising data tor beginning a saw dissolution salt against the oily oc- tupus. A UNIQUE COUNTRY By NEVA FAUGHT Klamath County High School Student FEW LOCALITIES In the world possess so many attractions as the Klamath country. Crater Lake, farmed from an extinct Tolcaao, Is possibly the most remarkable. To tbe lover ot beauty, Mt McLougblin aad the lofty Cascades make a strong appeal. In the heart of the region, Klam ath Lake, the largest west of the Rockies, extends Its peaceful surface and on its shores and tributaries ideal summer resorts are found. The falls ot Link RlTer also are not unimport ant for natural water power la a Tory unusual aad valuable resource. Klamath, too, la unique la having great quantities of timber at her door to any nothing of the farming lands. The Lava Bedaand lea Caves are aot far away aad as far aa we know there la aowhere anything like them. In than aad la many' other ways, Klamath la a great and wonderful country aad wo might aa well wake np to the fact first aa last When the railroad cornea and we have trans portation facilities. It will aot take people loag to realize what we have here and this will soon be a dty of thonaaada where wo now have hund reds. Aad meanwhile we can hasten the day by wide-awake advertising and letting others know of oar wonderful mate and resources. If once de velopment began aad people would start coming here, we wouldn't have to wait oa tbe railroad but rather the railroad would have to hurry and get here in order to get some of the trade. Tbe day la aura to come aad the sooner It dawns the better! Scattered Shots a a a SO FAR AS VILLA'S death la coa- cerned. General Pershing seems to be a native of Missouri. NOW DON'T BEEF about the way the affairs ot the dty are conducted hereafter If yon did aot take tka trouble to register. YESTERDAY'S speeding demon strated that although the Indian race la disappearing, the Indian la still abl to ramble some. ' THIS IS THE TIME to Insure the health, ot yourself and family by cleaning up your premises, putting In proper screens, aad in other ways removing the breeding places of flea, mosqultoa and dlseaae. Are you do ing so? 7-SOME PEOPLE seek to extuse their lack of public spirit and their cussed laziness by calling It their modesty. ; PORTLAND ROSE FESTIVAL 101S QUEEN CONTEST GOOD FOR ONE VOTE Void after Sataraay, April i w Name .... At the Pavilion Meetings The union evangelistic meetings at tbe pavlUon closed last night wltn the building well filled, about 800 being present Oae of the strongest, If not the strongest, sermon ot the entire series was delivered, Mr. Mathla using the well known words aa a text, "Pre pare to meet thy God." The sermon had three main dlvlsjomn He la a great God; He Is a God of love; Ho is a holy God. On account ot thee things we should render Him the highest service In our power. Con trary to the somewhat common in terpretation of this text, the sermon made no appeal to fear but to the higher elements' In our life. In fact, one of tbe marked features of the meetings haa been that the entire ser vice has avoided any appeal to fear and the aim has been to reach those nobler elements of the human soul. That thla plan of work geta results for good Is evidenced by tbe fact that 150 cards have been signed and placed In the hands pf the secretarial committee, indicating the choice of the higher Christian life. Yesterday showed in total attendance by far the largest number present ot all the days of the meetings, close to 8,000 being present at the three services. The J large chorus choir had about ISSJ voices and rendered fine music. Mr. Vessey gave cornet and vocal solos I and a request came from the audi ence that Mlaa Vera Houston and Mr. ! Vessey repeat a duet which they bad given the night before, and they com plied. All of the running expenses of the meeting had previously been met by the collections and tbe subscription i taken two weeks ago. AH the offer ings ot yesterday went to Mr. Mathla as his remuneration for services. N.o guarantee bad been asked for or made him except that tbe offerings of tbe final Sunday go to blm and that the traveling expenses, entertainment and a part ot tbe singer's salary be In cluded In the running expenses of the meeting. The offering to Mr. Mathla j waa very generous. The entire finan cial part waa bandied In a business like manner, all collections for the running 'expenses having paased through tbe bands of the financial committee and tbe treasurer's ac count at tbe bank, and all bills were audited both by the persons contract ing them and by tbe financial com mittee and paid by check by the treas- UPPER LAKE WaanaaaataferCUUaa freight beau oa the Upaa every atonlag eweoy Saaday, at TiSS.
