WASHINGTON, D. C, Nor. 18.
Indications are that Austria and Ger
many cooperate in Informing the
United States regarding the slaking
of the Italian-American liner Ancona
off Sardinia November 8, by a Teuton
submarine. Full details from the
American cconsuts are etlll lacking,
but are slowly coming to the office of
State Secretary Lansing.
Today, Secretary Lansing received
a formal reply from Austria to the
recent demand from the United
States for Information regarding the
affair. This goes into details.
In this report Austria asserts unre
servedly that the Ancona waa warned
to stop, contradicting the Italian re
port that tho vessel was fired on be
foro It was ordered to halt. The
Austrlans say no shots wore flred
after tho Ancona stopped.
(Icrmany, It is understood, is pro
paring to voluntarily Inform tho Unit
ed States that the Ancona was not
Hunk by a aerman submarine.
