As they passed the big doors they paused in salute to a hand come 8ilverhalred woman, who, all sympathy and kindly interest, await ed them. A table filled with gifts stood at her aide. The sllverbalred woman was the Queen Mother Margharlta herself. The twelve recovered soldiers were on their way to their respective homes for a brief "holiday" before returning to the front. Through their corporal they told the queen that in all their lives they had never dreamed ot having such splendid care and so wonderful a jhome as they had enjoyed at the ; queen mother's hospital the villa. The queen indeed has bestowed upon these soldiers In her villa tins intimate and detailed uttentlon such as a mother at home would give her own children. Before they left It was the queen mother's desire that the twelve assemble, as she wished to give them a little gift as a remem brance of their visit. The gifts were artistic bags con taining, among other fittings, a- purso with ten francs, a wrist watch, a cig arette case filled with fine cigarette, twelve handkerchiefs and many other little objects.
