There are but two routes from the
north to tho south through the state.

lamette Valley, over the Siskiyou and
on south. For a while when we failed
to get the Pacific highway, It looked
as if we were to be left out. But the
o;euing of the Lava Bed road to
Lookout and the excellent road to
Crater Lake solves the question, and
puts us once more on the main line
of the "gas wagon" if we go after It
anil rec first that the road Is there
ud then follow it up with advertis-
inK.
Crater Lake has been acknowledged
for come time past to be the greatest
individual wonder In the country. We
hate had some trouble claiming it
from Medtord, despite the fact that it
Is In our county, but then we. cannot
blame them. Now we can open up
another wonder or wonders that will
place within easy reach of the tourist
a novel and exceptional opportunity
to istt a real lava beds right on the
main route of travel. Of course,
they will get out of their machines
to see the caves and wonders, but
that Is about all. Out of a swelter
ing sun into a dark, cold ice cave that
perhaps is not surpassed In its class,

with the eddies, falls, gushing springs
frozen into a most beautiful and
awful silence that awes one while In
Its presence.
Aside from the several cares, in
cluding ice caves, Bear's Paw wave, a
very recent volcano, beautiful view of
Tule Lake, crevices, caverns, blow
holes, rock blown tunnels and many
other oddities and freaks from nature
there are on the other side of the
beds the historic points about which
have been woven a story of a- light
for life. A wooden cross marks the
spot where General Can by and bis
faithful followers were massacred.

the rack onto the wagon, and "Doc"

measly telephone bell rang. Of course,
being on the job, be was up and after
that phone call, and right there was
where he got it.
Thinking he was clear of the rack
he straightened up and started toward
the barn. The end of a bolt In the
rack caught tho top at his scalp and
nearly cut It in two before he stopped.

in the ground to the bottom ot which
nobody has ever been. Such are a
few of the things that might interest
the traveling punllc.
