If during that tlmo a single Instance
can be shown where we haTe either
solicited or accepted a dollar that we
were not legitimately or justly enti
tled to. or where we hare threatened
or attempted to coerce or influence
any public or private individual,
through fear of public attack, we be
lieve the people of this county are en
titled to know of It.
There Is nothing like publicity to
clear the atmosphere and discourage
tho adoption of questionable methods
by men serving tho public. The courts
of our country are usually the best
mediums through which this publicity
can be secured. Charges and insinu
ations arc not always satisfactory, and
are not accepted by courts and Juries.
Here is the place where tho people
con rely on getting the full and com
plete facts.
The attack of the Merrill Record
should be proof to tho people of
Klamath county of how desperate
Worden, Emmitt and their bunch
are. They know that their rope is
getting shorter all the time, and that
they must win. Nothing short of mur
der will stop them from holding onto
tho finances of the county. It Is pita-
ble to see how desperate they have
become.
It Is Immaterial whether or not W.
O. Smith is elected to the legislature.
If his defeat will mean the freeing of
the people of Klamath county from
tho bands of this band of political vul
tures, we will not look upon it as a
sacrifice of ourselves, but as a victory
for the people, whose interests are
ours, and that of every honest citizen.

land of today Is a vastly different
sort of a place than It was prior to
the beginning of the war, according
to a traveler who has reached here.
From the lively, popular seaside re

all tho Inhabitants of the Island who

reason for this Is that It Is planning

Men and Women of Oregon
WAKE UP!
Oregon's Prosperity Is at Stake
Ten thousand men and women workinumen of the atntc stretch out their arms in
earnest, brotherly appeal in defense of tbeir jobs, their homes.
Fifty thousand hop pickers nsk you to earnestly think of the injury you might
unconsciously do them.
jSeven hundred hop growers, with thousands of acres at stake, with six million annual
income hanging in the balance, and paying three million dollars in annual wages, as
you to do nothing to them you would not have them do to you-to apply the Golden Rule.
A foreign war that may last for years already is laying its blight of stagnation on
our beloved state.
DON'T MAKE TAXES ANY HIGHER
DONT CREATE WORSE CONDITIONS OF POVERTY
DONT CREATE MORE HUNGER
Be awfully careful that your emotions do not
lead you to do a greater injury to your fellow
men and women whom you might think
you were doing good
