Kegardlug the matter, Watson was
rellcuil. He stated that he had asked
for n full Investigation Into his ad-
ministration, and his friends state
that he Is resigning "rather lhan cause
any friction, but li determined to
have his acts fully looked Into by tho
department.
Watson's friends claim that the
move Is largely a political one, duo
to the change of administration, and
thoy say that all over thu United
States the now administration in tho
bureau of Indian affairs is pausing
vacancies and removals.
Early In tho spring. Principal Sims
of the Indian school is alleged to
have gtven some Indian youths severe
bwtings, and this aroused the iro ot
the Indians. When Sims wired his
resignation In, the Indians also wired
to Washington, asking the bureau not
to accept tho resignation until an in-
.-..ligation had been made.
II. (. Wilson, bupervlsnr of Indian
roM-rvatlons In Oregon, camo In right
nfter this, and spent some time on
tho reservation, making an Investiga
tion. Some state that this Investiga
tion was largely responsible for the
present state of affairs, as Sims was
under Watson, but Watson holds that
this Is minor matter lu tho case.
