partment of tho Interior, representa
tives aro present from Arizona, Cali
fornia, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Ne
vada, New Mexico, Oregon, South and
North Dnkotn,' Utah, Washington and
Wyoming.
Secretary line's original call stat
ed that the conference would be de
voted "especially to the consideration
of methods of co-operation in recla
mation and Irrigation work between
thu states and iho federal govern
ment."
With a view of furthering such co-
operatlonitlovernor Amnions of Colo
rado aud Governor J. M. Carey of
Wyoming called tho meeting of West
ern governors Tuesday to agTee on a
program for today's meeting. Aa a
r eault. It aa expected that the gov-
ernors would bo ablo to stand .togeth
er on a program of development.
The Itocky Mountain state govern
ors aro very sanguine over the results
of today's ''conference. Hefore! the
meeting Oovernor Amnions said to the
United Cretin:
"The general conference "of "tho
country will be held this year at Mad
Ikou. Wis., In June. The executive
committee of that organisation has
agrred to tako up some Western ques
tions at that meeting. The-conference
called by Secretary 1-ane comes, there
fore, at a proper time, so that Its re-aults-may
be brought before tho gen
eral conference.
"If this meeting brings aboufa co
operation between the federal and
state governments and works out
somo practical system for throwing
safeguards about the Irrigation se
curities, the very greatest possible
benefits would como to tho West."
It Is expxected that representatives

discuss tho Dotation of Irrigation
bonds. The visiting state executives
will bo the guests of honor at a ball
given at El Jcbel Temple tonight.

Sullivan of New York and his partner,
John Consldlno of Seattle, has been
sold to Marcus Loew, the moving pic
ture theater man. After "Big TIm'a"
death many theatrical managers con
sidered tho purchase of the circuit,
and several syndicates were reported
to have been formed tor that purpose.
The rise, of Loew has been one of the
wonders of the theatrical business.
Six or soven years ago he was not
known. Now he is reputed to control
millions the price he and his friends
are to give for the circuit Is alone
stated at $0,000,000, which he must
delivery by August 1st He has been
a nowsboy, a wholesale news agent,
the owner of an East Side newspaper
In New York, a furrier, and one of the
first to build an elaborate penny ar
cade. In this last he found himself.
Ho has grown till he owns twenty.
four moving picture and vaudeville
bouses In New York city. One of
these was erected at a cost of $700,-
000 on the site where he was horn
