A BARGAIN CATALOGUE TJIK MKIICHANT8 OP THIS CITY HIIOVMI IHHt'K OXK WOULD BRINC MUCH BUSINESS A llargaln Week Hhoald lie Inaugu rated and an Effort Made to Cap ture OntsMe Trade Aro the merchants of Klamath Kails going to mako a more towards securing tho trado of the outside communities? That I a question that still remains unanswered. Some time ago It was suggested that the merchants get together and Issue a catalogue and establish a bargain week. No more In this direction has been made, and unless one Is made rcry soon It will be too late to bring to this city the hundreds ot people who bare been going elsewhere with their money. They can do better In Klamath Palls than elsewhere, but they will havo to be told that fact clearly and distinctly, and tho only way to do It Is for tbo merchants to Isruo a catalogue giving price that can be compared with thoso hereto fore paid by these people. One method that could be followed is to turn tho matter over to tho Chamber of Commcrco and hare the cataloguo Issued under Its auspices, the merchants furnishing the articles they desired listed therein. Each business house should select one ar tlclo that will be sold during that week at or below cost, and this used as a "puller" for business. In addi tion to thla article such othera as they choose to run as bargains should bo listed, together with a fuller list of the staples that remain at the reg ular price. A "bargain week" would bring to t hi city thousands ot dollars and help the merchants to more goods that would otherwise remain on their shelves for the winter. This sale-ahould be run during 'the fair week and now Is the time to start the ball rolling. NEW MARKET FOR CATTLE TACOHA COMKH TO KLAMATH TO HKCirnt: iikkf DEMAND OF COAST INCREASES Tiie Completion of I he IJne lo Na tron Mean That Klamath Will lie large IVeef Producer The prediction often made that Klamath county Is destined to be ono v of tho main supply grounds for the stock market of tho Pacific Coast I cmphaslied by the appearance Injho city of u P. Pauley, representing tho Castens Packing company of Tacoma. This company Is ono of tho leading packing concerns on the Coast, and Is constantly adding to Ita capacity, which now amounts to ISO head a day. Mr. Pauley was here last year and purchased several train loads of cat tle around Fort Klamath. Thoso were driven to Ashland for shipment. This year they win be shipped from Mid land, and the result I tho leaving In this county a considerable amount ot monoy that would otherwise be spent on tho other sldo ot the mountains. "When this lino I completed to Natron, Klamath county will at onco take front rank among tho cattle-producing sections ot the Coast," said Mr. Pauley at the Lakeside to-day. "Pew realize what this will mean to tbo farmers ot this county. Hereto fore It had only ono market for It stock that to the south. The build ing of this tine will open up the northern market, and this one will bo moro Important than tho ono south. The growth of the Northwest during the past tew years has been phenom enal and with this Increase has como the greater demand for meats ot all kinds, This has grown to such an ex tent as to attract the attention of tbo great packing companln of the East nd they are at work now erectfnifj"", mammoth plants In Portland. It will be a difficult matter to supply the de mand, and I firmly bellero that there will be a substantial advanco In the price paid for stock or all kinds." Klamath county now has the lead In the stock Industry and It Is not aniVA v Ihil I I. vaIhi. In Ia.a 1. fl.- opening up of tho northern market means a greater demand for fattened stock and this means a greater de mand for alfalfa. It Is not a rash prediction to mako that If all ot the Irrigated lands In Klamath were In alfalfa there will bo demand sufficient to consume the entlro supply."
