Bouthworth, the' Klamath Falls Inventor, has devised an appar atus for catching mfnk and other an imals and which also can be used'oa a smaller scale for catching fish. ' Tbe devise Is an oblong shaped af fair smaller than a lead pencil, wblcb Is inserted In the minnow or what ever bait Is used. It contains an air chamber wblcb will float tho minnow so that It would appear as alive. Af. ter tbe minnow or bait Is swallowed by tbe Bab, any strong pull on tbe line would release a spring which would force two neddle llko prongs Into the fish and bold It fast. The fish can be released by pushing on a small rod connected with the line. The dovlse Is particularly designed for catching mink and other animals of that nature, and It Is claimed that It would bo a much better method tban the old atyle trap In that It would In no way Injure tbe bide. It Is also, much more humane aa the an imal would choke to death In a few minutes, and would not be left to suffer for hours as Is many times tbe case wbon It Is mangled In a trap. Tbu whole question Is a big one, Tbu Aluurlcu of today ta au art-loving uatlou a music-loving nation espe cially. An operatic career docs un questionably make a powerful appeal to a girl gifted with a good voice and umouraged by a little local renown. The trouble Is, so many American girls have good voices. They alng la church choirs, at a party or aa ama teur concert, and theu siren voices aru heard In well-meant adulation "Why don't you gosuo Europe to study? With such a olce as ours you ought to make name and fame. Aud so un. Now, criticism of this sort won't do; Indeed, It may wall bring about ombltterment and disaster. Little girls of fifteen have written ma re gretfully, saying they bava "not yet begun serious study." Why; It la positively criminal to embarkMUpon a tinging career before the' age of eighteen, at least. Thea, Is tbelr bealtb robust? For that-Is vital. It IS now practically assured that tbe terminus of tho railroad, the sur vey for which Is now being made from Alturas, Is to be at Klamath Falls, Instead ot as first reported at Midland. The surveying crew under the charge of Engineer Knowlton, movod their camps tbe first of the weak to tho Short ranch. A pnrt of tho crew Including tbe draftimcn are loaded at tl e Carroll ,anc" . A II , I, j I ; un up the canter of t c valley and as been about compl:t:d to tl Is city. This would mean Oat there will jo two lines up the valley. Tbe Cal ifornia Northeastern will l;avo Mid and and follow clojely tbo slioro line until It reaches ttli city. The sur vey being made by Mr. Knowlton's crew would Indicate that when tho Alturas line Is built It will traverse the entire length of tho Klamath Basin, coming up the center of the valley. It Klamath Falls is mado the ter minus ot both of these roads, It will simply assure the future ot the city. With the narrow guage running to Alturas replaced by a standard road. It would give Klamath. .Falls direct connection with tbe East by way ot Reno, Nevada. NOTICE. y.
