No Dslay In Granting Petition
of Businessmen for Peddlers-Hawkers
License
"Every uuctloneer, hawker, ped
dler or pawnbroker beforo transact
ing business or engaging therein,
within the city limits of Klamath
Falls, htiull procure a license from
thu Police Judge, ot said city, and It
is made unlawful for any person or
persons to carry on or cngaga In such
trndeH or business, or any of the same
without first having procured such
license.
"Thu amount to bu paid by every
such auctioneer, hawker, peddler or
pawnbroker, for thu license, required
by section 1 of this ordinance shall
be $2t per day, etc.
"Kvery person or persons engaging
in any such trades, calling or business
mentioned herein without first having
procured tbo license as herein requir
ed shall, upon conviction thereof be
fore the Pollco Judge, be fined not
less than $10 nor moro than 2S, or
bo Imprisoned In the city Jail for a
period of not less than five days or
moru than fifteen days, or by both
flno and Imprisonment."
Tlio above ordinance was passed
by thu City Council at a special meet
ing held this morning. It bad at
tached to It an emergency clause and
went into effect Immediately upon
Its passage and signature by the pres
ident ot thu Council, as acting Mayor.
The ordinance was Introduced at
the meeting last night and was pass
ed to Its second reading. As there
wero .only four Councllmen present
besides tho president. It was not pos
sible to secure a three-fourths vote
declaring an omergency to that It
could be passed ob the sama day a
It was Introduced, and therefore an
other meeting was called (or this
morning.
It seemed to be generally under
stood at tho meeting that this ordi
nance was not to bo enforced against
tho farmers ot Klamath County dis
posing ot the products ot their farms.
HIGH SCHOOL NOTES.
Tho students were very agreeably
entertained by Rev. 0. LcRoy Hall,
who gave a reading accompanied by
a short talk. The students all enjoy
Rev. Hall's talks, and we are sure all
who attond the entertainment which
ho Is to give at the Baptist church
will enjoy It.
Tbo preliminary debate was bald
at 2:30 tbla afternoon. We enjoyed
some very good speeches from the de
baters. Mr. Dunbar, Miss Shires, and
