nuisance, has been held legal in all its details by Judge cU Kailcl1 ' r ,vCI,t
Harris, of the Circuit Court. Soon after the ordinance
was passed by the council nearly a year ago, Charles May
hew, of that city, was arrested for violating it. He
was tried in the Police Court and sentenced to pay a fine
of $200 and to imprisonment in the city jail for 60 days.
The matter was carried up to the Circuit Court, and has
been under advisement by Judge Harris until now, in the
meantime the defendant being out on bonds. The
judge has now passed on the case, declaring the orcli-11.1
nance legal and affirming the decision of the Police Court.

The Republican Convention has reached the button
and badge stage. From the appearance of the output,
the 'array will outshine all previous campaigns. The
first buttons were those of William H. Taft. The face
of the smiling Secretary is done in a terra cctta color
plate the size of a saucer. The button is hung from a
red, white and blue ribbon with "Taft" in black letters
across its face. The regulation Taft button is of terra
cotta color the size of a dime. Other buttons on the
market are those of Cannon, Hughes, Knox, Fairbanks
Foraker and LaFollette.
The Republican convention will meet in Chicago to
morrow to select candidates for President and Vice-President.
It is predicted that Taft will receive the nomi
nation for President on the first ballot, and interest in
the convention has reverted to the nominee for.the second
place. The number of possibilities for that position has
been increased daily.
