KIUO.W MAY 20, IW
The Herald has been naked by
the saloonmen if we think they
ave no richts. We certainly
accord to them all the rights and
privileges whicn are given to
overy free American citizen.
Wo will even concede to them
the right to publish nitything in
the "Anti" which they ma de
sire. They claim the right to
meet the "bifter personal at
tacks" of the Anti saloon people
with "bitter personal attacks,"
and as long as it is their light
not ours, we cheerfully admit it
is none of cur business.
We do not Iwlieve that the sa
loonmen meant it -in just that
way and we have not so inter
preted their reply. They no
doubt feel that the Herald has
unjustly criticised their action,
but if they stoo to think they
will see that it was only friendly
advice, such as we might ogTer
the Local Option people.

Taft replies in a telegram stating
that he was in favor of the bill '
and had already written Senator '
Burrows, chairman of the com-1
mittee on elections, urging the i
passing of the bill. I
are in favor or the publishing
of campaign contributions, and
that would indicate that possibly
zation, whether it is indulged in i both the Democratic and Kepub-
by the Local Ootion dcodIC or "can plattorm3 will contain a
the saloonmen. This has always
been the history of prohibition
tights and is one of the causes of
the great damage done to busi
ness and any town or community
where the fight occures. We
ar free to speak plain on this
subject. a3 we have not been
embarrassed by accepting money
from either side.
The saloonmen has compli
mented us by saying that "The
Herald has always been fair in
all matters iortaining to the
city's affairs." We have found
out long ago that it pays to be
fair. The Herald does not
represent any interest-r-or- body
of men. It depends entirely on
the support of its readers, the
citizens of Klamath Falls. The
people have faith in the Herald
and know that what is printed
in the news columns, is not the
biased opinion of the Editor, but
rather the actual daily occur
rences obtained from reliable
sources. This policy is why the
Herald has more readers in Kla
math Falls than any other paper.
This is the reason why we are
daily adding new subscribers to
our list. Thi3 is the reason also,
and courage to publish the m-ws i mmc bVimtor. I n riMnj; mwg Stnir-
without distortion or prejudicial
interpolation. Having chroni
cled the happenings the readers
mind is left free to form a
judgement. Irrespective of
what the Editor may say editor
ially he has opitortunity to draw
his own conclusions, because all
the facts from which an opinion 'rol UUConnty.nliioa.iioimt) Miviiff.
