is, that he is a clever politican,
and H. M. Cake, who at this
late day admits that all the ac
cusations made against Fulton
were false and only for the pur
pose of defeating him.
It now develops, that when
Fulton was making the fight of
his life in the Senate for his land
grant' bill, which would restore
to Oregon the millions of acres
of land illegally held by the
Southern Pacific Company, our
other worthy Senator Johnatban
Bourne, who, by the way, was
elected by the "people, M was
ready to trade his vote for the
Fordney amendment, which was
backed by the Booth-Kelly and
Curtis Lumbering Company, for
the consideration that those cor
porations saw to it that Senator
Bingham, a close friend of
Bourne, was allowed the exclus
ive privilege of naming the Lane
County delegation to the state
convention.
This is the condition which
Oregon is up against We have
got to vote for a nan, who, in
the position of the chief excutive
of the state, would beunirch the
name of the man whom he - con
sidered his strongest opponent,
so as to defeat him, and a man,
whose sincerity Is so questionable
that it will allow him to place
personal gain ahead of the good
of the state. It is certainly time
for the people, in reality, to
take a hand in politics, and nom
inate men who will be true
representatives of the state and
not allow Multnomah County to
have everything, simply for the
selfish purpose of hogging all
the federal patronage.
