Of course nothing was said, but their thrilling recital was doubted and an investigation was started at once by some doubting Thomases which we are told revealed some interestingf acts. In the first place it seems that deliveryman Dunford had been noticed placing an eight pound express package by the roadside just beyond the city limits, which had been sent from a point in the Willamette Valiev where wild geese are numerous at this season of the year. The boys stoutly maintain that they did shoot the goose, out on the Applegate, and that it was the only one in that section of the country at the time. They also state that they shot twenty shots at it after which it was so full of lead that they succeeded in rutting it down and capturing it. This statement is bourne out by the fact that over fifteen ounces of No. four shot were found in the bottom of the kettle in which the goose was cooked, and by the furthur fact that the shot found were the same size as that which the boys were shooting. Still remains the unexplained mystery of the express package which happened to | arrive just prior to their return. Oh, of course they may have shot the goose.
