Watkins Item*. The Louden brother* have been having some trouble by coyote* getting among their sheep. At last account the wolves had taken M-ven young laiidm from their flock. Coyote*are quite numerous in this part ot the country and are proving a great nuisance in many way*. The boy* working on the new road had a narrow escape from a very serious acci dent hist week. They were thawing some |x>w<h-r when ten sticks explode«!, causing quite in excavation. Fortunately no one was hurt. Mr. Emmett Thompson, who ha* lx-en making his home at this place for the past I wo years, left for Mexico last week. Mr. Thompson is an exemplary young man am! has many friends who regret to lose him from this neighlx>rh«xxl. Quite a bit of snow has fallen the last few days but ha* not lain on long. We certainly have had our six weeks of winter since “ground hog «lay," ami it seems very liberal, for to all aptx-arance* we arc going to have two weeks extra. Mr. J. O'Brien of Lower Applegate was in this vicinity on business last Monday. The long continued rain* have incon venienced the miners as they have a great «leal of work to do on their claim* and they are all wishing for good weather. Cotton rag* for wiping presses wanted at tile Sentinel office. W. S. Breeding, a rancher and miner of Wotxlviile vicinity, was in Jacksonville Monday on business at the courthouse. The spring and summer term of school lx-gan in the Woodville district last Monday with Tbo*. Townsend of Rose burg a* teacher. Mr. Townsend come» to Jackson county with a g<xxl record as a teacher and he will l>e quite sure to make a success of his school at Woodville Special Immigration Rales.
